UMass Amherst Libraries Announce New Journal, The Open Journal for Students’ and New Scientists’ Research (OJSSR)
The University of Massachusetts Amherst Libraries are pleased to announce a new journal, The Open Journal for Students’ and New Scientists’ Research (OJSSR). OJSSR is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic research journal that empowers undergraduate, ambitious high school students and beginning scientists to go beyond the classroom and engage in real-world, data-driven primary and secondary research and publication.
The editorial board consists of Founding Editor Jedaidah Chilufya-Scalessa (Lecturer, Biology) and Executive Editors, Dong Wang (Associate Professor, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology) and Favorite Iradukunda (Assistant Professor, College of Nursing).
OJSSR welcomes a wide range of submissions in the biological and life sciences, public health and education research including:
- Original research articles
- Short studies and lab-based projects
- Scientific literature reviews
- Class-based or summer program individual research reports
Early submissions are welcome, and author guidelines can be found here.
The journal website was built by Nora Zahn, a Simmons MLS student completing a summer internship in library publishing. “I’m glad I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Chilufya to set up this journal during my internship with UMass Libraries under the guidance of my supervisor, Erin Jerome,” says Nora. “It’s exciting that undergraduate students will have a new opportunity to experience the review process and publish their research, and I look forward to watching this project grow.”
