UMass Amherst Libraries Now Offer LibKey

Following a successful trial, the Libraries will continue offering LibKey, a tool that improves our ability to connect UMass patrons with library e-resources and open access materials. Learn more about LibKey and install the LibKey Nomad browser extension here.

When UMass patrons browse the wider web, the LibKey Nomad extension automatically connects them to open access and library-subscribed content whenever a DOI or PubMed ID matches library or OA resources (such as in references on Wikipedia). The extension can also streamline the submission of ILL requests and has significantly improved workflows for Evidence Synthesis projects.

LibKey also integrates with EDS, adding journal cover images and making links to e-resources more consistent, including linking directly to a PDF when one is available.

In addition, LibKey has been added to the DOI/PMID lookup option on the ILL article request page. This enhancement provides instant access to materials that previously required staff intervention. Patrons with an article identifier can now use this page as a quick way to access or request articles. If a request submitted to ILL is owned by the Libraries and has a DOI or PMID attached or added as part of processing, LibKey will even automatically email the patron with a link to the article.
