Rights

The Rights field is where to record any information pertaining to acceptable uses for the image. Any image taken from a book or a slide vendor will typically use the following phrase, “Copyrighted material - for educational use only”. For those images that are the product of personal photography, use “Duplication Rights - [Firstname Lastname]”. If there is no information with the image source pertaining to copyright either use the phrase, “Copyrighted material - for educational use only” or ask your supervisor. If you have any doubt about the copyright status of an image, err on the side of caution and use, “Copyrighted material - for educational use only”.

Rights

Record in this field a rights statement about the copyright status and the rights holder for a work, collection, or image.

Type

Use one of the following values for the rights type: 'copyrighted', 'public domain', 'undetermined', or 'other'. Most of the images we will be cataloging will be copyrighted, but if you are unsure, ask your supervisor.

Notes

The optional notes field may include any justifications, conditions, or restraints on use, contact or licensing information, or other intellectual property statements as may be desired.

Rights Holder

Use this field to record the individual, publisher, or other institution that is the the copyright holder.
