Receiving Monographs Using FASTCAT Standards

1. Scan ISBN or type in title to “FIND” field in SEARCH section of Acquisitions module

2. View MARC catalog record

3. Evaluate MARC record for FASTCAT - (Susan will search OCLC and overlay a better record where record in ALEPH is not up to FASTCAT standards. If someone is filling in for her, they can just evaluate the ALEPH record and, if it does not meet the FASTCAT criteria, shelve it for a cataloger to look at later. If the book is a RUSH item, it can go to Eva or a Cataloger)

Records for printed books must correspond to book-in-hand as follows:

RDA records will have always an 040 $e rda

Accurate transcription from title page, title page verso, colophon, covers, or other:

 245 A Title
 245 B Subtitle
245 C Statement of Responsibility (Author)

RDA: Capitalization of the title may differ in RDA records – will usually (but not always) match the capitalization on the piece. Also there won’t be a gmd like $h [videorecording] in RDA records.

Edition statement:

Check the 250 field to help identify matching editions.

RDA: records will have edition spelled out in full – so instead of 3rd rev. ed. it will be Third revised edition.

260 A Place of publication
260 B Publisher (may contain abbreviations)
260 C Date of Publication

RDA: No more Latin abbreviations
